The Music collective shortfilmlivemusic (sflm) will be performing its film concert “Survival Strategies for Cold Countries” on Thursday, 19th of September 2019, in Amman. The multimedia piece focuses on migration to and from Germany and creates a poetic tale of arrivals over the course of history. A workshop on the creation of the piece is preceding the performance. Both events are organized by the German Embassy Amman within the framework of the European Film Festival in Jordan and with support from the Delegation of the European Delegation to Jordan.

Time: 04:00 pm - 05:30 pm

Venue: Al-Hussein Cultural Center in Ras-El-Ein.

There have been large waves of migration all over the world at all times. Neither the escape of large groups of people to Europe in 2015 nor the migration treks through Central America in 2018 were new phenomena, only extreme occurrences. The event of migration is as old as humanity itself and has had a significant effect on the development of states and societies worldwide.

“Survival Strategies for Cold Countries” uses different artistic means to make stories of Migration tangible. The project’s focus is on the perspective the migrants have on their arrival. What does it mean to arrive? How do the arriving people experience this moment? The artists use current and historic sources, literary texts, films and contemporary witnesses. The combination of film, music and acting creates a poetic tale of arrivals yesterday and today as well as an outside ethnological view on the country of arrival. It is about waiting and expectations, attributions and affiliations as well as about the strategies people develop to become part of a new environment.

The collective shortfilmlivemusic has been developing documentary film concerts since 2005 focusing on migration among other topics. For “Survival Strategies for Cold Countries” they have for the first time cooperated with curator Neriman Bayram of the municipal cinema Freiburg, experimental musician Ephraim Wegner and actor Fadi Mhawesch.
